How to Write a Critique on an Article

There are times that you might be asked to not just write an article but to write an article that critiques another article that has been written. What is is, is an article that evaluates the work and gives more insight into the article including it's strengths as well as it's weaknesses. In order to do this you will not only need to be able to write good sound articles yourself but you also will need to have a knowledge of what you are actually critiquing.

You will first of course need to read the article that you are about to critique. You shouldn't try to make any kind of notes when you read the article for the first time. It's later when you read the article for a second time that you need to start paying close attention to what the central point of the article is and what it's supporting points might be as well.

After you have done that you should then read it for a third time and now write down your critique notes from what you have learned from the article. When you read the article several times it is going to ensure that you have not missed anything that might be critical to the article and critical for how you are going to critique it.

You will also need to consider the author and their credentials. Do they really have the right credentials for them to be a reliable source? This is important that you consider their expertise and any biases they might have that might reflect their perspective. You also want to make sure that the sources used in their article are respectable as well.

After you have done all of this you can now start writing your critique. The first thing you are going to want to do is to write an introduction. The intro will need to include the original author's name, then the name of the actual article, the sources used and the main or central point of the entire article.

You next will need to do a summary of the article and it's supporting points. You need to determine if the supporting points that were provided do hold up and support the actual main point of the article. Your article or critique should answer the following questions:

  1. What is the author's expertise?
  2. Do you agree or disagree with the author?
  3. Did the author use the right methods to gather their evidence?
  4. Was the information or evidence the author used correct or accurate?
  5. Is the article and it's evidence still valid or outdated?
  6. Was the author successful when trying to make their point?
Once you have answered all of these questions then you can go onto your conclusion. Your conclusion will need to have a general opinion of the article itself and you will need to mention whether or not that you agree or disagree with the author and the reason for your overall conclusion.

Many people think that when they hear the Federal Reserve Chairman make a monetary policy change with the Prime rate, it automatically affects interest rates. Not so. The Prime rate increase or decrease may affect a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC), but it wouldn't affect interest rates. Interest rates also fluctuate with the various loan programs available to the borrower. www.forexsignals.es
